Alright! You bought your gear and it should arrive in a few days. Now what?
Time to build your community! First and foremost - the foiling community is incredible. In my experience, every foiler I have met is so stoked about foiling and even more stoked to meet fellow foilers. It blew my mind that I could literally message any foiler in the world for tips/questions/etc. and they are happy to take time out of their day to respond. Even now, you are a pioneer of a very new sport and there is beautiful sense of comradery among us.
Early on, foiling is frustrating. You are going to sit in the water angry you wasted your money on a stupid new hobby that is impossible to learn. And to make it through those rough days, you need to build a community around you.
And what do I mean by community?
Join a forum! Get on https://forum.progressionproject.com/ and rant about how frustrated you are! Filter to Prone Surf Foiling and read about others journeys. Make friends. Ask questions. Learn!
Fill your social media feed with inspirational foilers! Watching videos of Adam Bennetts, Josh Ku, Erik Antonson, Mike Pedigo, etc. rip on foil always motivated me to get back in the water after a brutal session.
Make foiling friends at your local beach or join a foiling club! My best foiling buddy is out of the country right now and it's 100% impacting my foiling. My sessions are shorter, I'm pushing myself less, and I'm lonely in the water. Your local foiling community is going to help you progress faster.
In conclusion, don't forget that prone surf foiling is one of the hardest sports in the world to learn - don't make it harder on yourself by doing it alone.
